Dear Friends,
For the past week, our team of doctors, nurses and volunteers have been working tirelessly in the Bugando Medical Center in Tanzania. This medical mission marks the first ever open heart surgery in Mwanza, Tanzinia.
In just 5 days, nine children underwAs this historical medical mission is coming to a close, our climbers are starting their next adventure. TODAY they start climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, as part of our campaign to save the lives of 100 African children. ent surgery and over 150 were screened. Two of the children screened came to Bugando Medical centre for a follow up visit from their surgery in Israel in 2010. Canadian funds from Bowl Your Heart Out supported surgery for these 2 boys, Daudi and Abel, who are both healthy, bright and aspiring to great things.
It took them 6.5 hours to get to camp one (3000m). When they got to their first destination they were greeted by the Hoffmans, two American climbers that had started the climb a day before, and a fabulous set dinner table. It’s getting colder as they ascend and contact with the outside world is getting more and more difficult.
For the next 7 days they will be sharing experiences, emotions, tents, food, tears and laughter, but most importantly a common goal: To reach the summit and SAVE lives.
Follow their adventure through their BLOG and PHOTO GALLERY.
We wish them the best of luck and look forward to hearing from them!
