After three years of caring for thousands of sick patients in southern continent, Dr. Avigail Maayani returns to Israel to treat African refugees in Tel Aviv

Three years ago Dr. Avigail Maayani left for Africa to care for the sick and lead medical training courses. Now she has returned to Israel, but Africa is still on her mind.

The good doctor chose to continue caring for Africans at the Israel Medical Association (IMA) refugee clinic in Tel Aviv.

When she first left for Africa, Mayani, a trained-gynecologist, left behind her husband and three children and joined the international Global Youth Partnership for Africa (GYPA) delegation, in cooperation with Brit Olam, an international Israeli Jewish Volunteer Movement, on a three month volunteer program.

On her first journey to the southern continent, she visited a small city near Uganda. There she cared for sick patients and trained locals in the fields of hygiene, proper nutrition, baby care, sexually transmitted diseases and children’s illnesses.

Maayani met nearly a 1,000 patients throughout her initial journey, an experience which affected her so deeply she began dreaming of moving to Africa and saving more lives.

In the meantime, many African refugees have arrived in Israel, and Maayani is there to provide them with proper medical care.

“Helping people is giving love without conditions, without wanting anything in return. It makes you whole and enriches you as a person,” she explained.

The refugee clinic was founded some three years ago by the IMA and Israel’s Health Ministry. Dozens of doctors care for hundreds of patients there every month.

Social networking giant Facebook is expected to open an Israel office by the end of the year in order to increase its pool of potential advertisers in Israel.

Facebook is currently the second-most used site in Israel, behind Google.

The company feels that opening a local advertising department will significantly increase the purchase of Facebook ads in Israel.

Representatives from Facebook headquarters have visited Israel in the past few weeks to meet with prominent advertisers as well as companies that develop leading applications for the online social network.

The Facebook representatives, who visited employees at Google’s Israel office, were also looking to hire marketing and sales people.

Until now, Facebook’s media sales in Israel were managed by Nana10 for premium clients, i.e. advertisers with extensive budgets.

Comedic actors Eddie Murphy and Sacha Baron Cohen might be well on their way to the holy land, as the two are reportedly in talks to shoot a commercial in Israel for an undisclosed brand, “Israel Hayom” local daily newspaper reports today. Israel’s second largest producer and marketer of soft drinks “Jafora-Tabori” has been having ongoing negotiations with the two to appear in one of their products’ upcoming ad campaign.

Per the article, the company’s ad agency Reuveni Pridan IPG has been looking to cast a high profile American comedian, and in the last few weeks has approached other well known figures, with Jason Alexander and Adam Sandler being two of the names mentioned. The company’s official statement was that “it does not wish to discuss future projects”, hence vague on details, but something is in the works.

If he were to sign on for the project, this is set to be Eddie Murphy’s first visit to Israel. However Sacha Baron Cohen is hardly a stranger to the holy land, being fluent in Hebrew and having extensive family living in the country. Cohen has been to Israel numerous times, most notably in 2009 when he shot scenes for his 2009 mockumentary comedy film “Bruno”. Two years ago he has voiced the character of a Jerusalem tour guide on an episode of “The Simpsons”.

Botth actors were in the headlines recently in Academy Awards’ related news stories. Murphy withdrew from his hosting duties in favor of Billy Crystal, while Cohen got into a publicized spectacle with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, as he was in character promoting the May release of “The Dictator”. Hopefully if he does make it to Israel for the commercial he’ll make for some very entertaining coverage.

She was pictured leaving his $10 million bachelor pad in the middle of the night, but it has now been revealed that Rihanna has enjoyed an eight week fling with Ashton Kutcher.

The popstar has reportedly been enjoying late-night trysts with the actor after hitting it off with him at a friend’s party in December.

She is apparently so besotted with him, that she’s asked about joining his Kabbalah group.

The 24-year-old singer was spotted by a photographer as she drove up to Ashton’s property with her security team around midnight.

The snapper confirmed to TMZ that the Barbados-born singer arrived almost square on the witching hour and didn’t leave until roughly 4am.

A source told The Sun:’ The flirting began as soon as Rihanna and Ashton met and swapped numbers. That moved onto texts and arranging to meet. They snuck off to a santa Monica hotel a few weeks ago.
‘They are two single people having a fling, so thought it would be best to meet in secret.

‘Rihanna has told friends he’s funny and cute. Both of them love a good time and think they’re too busy for anything serious just yet. She’s starting to enquire about Kabbalah sessions with his rabbi.

‘If she and Ashton are getting really close, she wants to be able to understand it.’

The source said he didn’t want to rub another relationship in estrange wife Demi Moore’s face.

‘He’s a good guy and, with all Demi’s recent health problems, people have forgotten that.’

Rihanna has come under fire recently for asking her ex Chris Brown to work with her after he brutally beat her two years ago.

Meanwhile, Ashton is still maligned for cheating on Demi and creating the scandal that led to their marriage breakdown.
