Israeli film wins award in Cannes Film Festival

Meni Yaesh’s first feature film ‘God’s Neighbors’ wins authors, directors award in festival’s Critics’ Week

Another international achievement for Israeli cinema: God’s Neighbors, a film by Meni Yaesh has won the Gaul’s Society of Authors, Directors and Composers award in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

The film is also nominated in the Caméra d’Or category for best first feature film.

God’s Neighbors is an Israeli-French co-production by Mark Rosenbaum and Transfax Film Productions and was one of seven films competing in the category.

The movie features a group of young Hasidim in the city of Bat Yam who force their beliefs on the neighborhood’s residents. When the group’s leader falls in love with a woman from the neighborhood he is forced into a moral and existential conundrum.

The main award ceremony of the festival will be held on Sunday, declaring the Palme d’Or award for best feature film.

His name is Spandy Andy Rimer AKA Spandy Andy, he’s a dancing Youtube senstation from Red Deer Alberta… He recently stared in a video for XL energy drinks Israel… we reached out to Andy to check out what’s begind the spandex!

Who is Spandy Andy ?

I am Spandy Andy! :D

How does a guy from Alberta (the perceived conservative capital of Canada) become well… Spandy Andy ?

Red Deer, AB gave me the fondation I needed to become a performer and I think Spandy is such an extreme opposite of “typical” Alberta because itwas my way of rebelling against the norm.

You are a Youtube Sensation, was that your goal ? Do you have any advice for others who are aiming for that?

My goals have been listed on my website as the following for the last 3 years:

1. Spread smiles and out of the box thinking. Inspire!

2. There is more to life.

3. Entertain for a living. :-D

In regards to becoming a “YouTube Sensation”, I’ve had know idea where Spandy Andy would take me. I love YouTube and the power of social media. I’ve been using the internet as a tool to spread my message since I can remember.

You were invited to Israel by XL, was this your first trip to the Holy Land ? (Click here to watch clip)

No, I visited Israel with Taglit in 2005. I love the country, it is a beautiful place and I hope to bring my girlfriend for a visit soon.

What did you think of the country ? Any Favorite spots ?

The beaches in Tel Aviv were TIGHT & BRIGHT!! :D

Would you say Tel Aviv lives up to its international reputation ?

Yes, very liberated spirit in the city. :)

What about the Israeli People ? How would you describe them ? Do they live up to their reputation as HOT ?

Yes, the Israeli people are HOT. I love how unique everyone I met was, a really great mix of all cultures. When dancing at Gordon Beach, I found the people to be a bit posh.

And of course, does size matter ? (take this question as you will)

Size doesn’t matter. That’s why spandex is one size fits all!! ;-D
