About FunkKit – Stickers for Sneakers

FunkKit is a community-based company that mixes Art, Technology, Crowdsourcing & Shoes to produce customized decals, skins for shoes – FunkKit’s Stickers-For-Sneakers.

These skins are no similar to regular stickers they are made of high-end material, adhesive, printing, and technology.

More than just Stickers for Sneakers, FunkKit works with designers around the world to produce a constant stream of new, unique designs for our product. The designers and artists submit their designs which are then voted by rest of the community. FunkKit provides an opportunity for

designers to showcase their artwork on a platform striving to lead a new category of expression in global apparel.

FunkKit received a second place prize at a local venture contest between 60 other startups and also entered the top 5 in the national CreativeBusinessCup international competition.

Who came up with the concept?

A few years ago I was shopping for sneakers with my friend in London, who loves hats. Each of his hats matches a different outfit. He came out with six pairs of sneakers all the same model yet in different colors, having each pair of shoes fitting a different hat.
At that moment, just like in cartoons, eureka! The light bulb went on, and I started checking patents and other product alternatives in the market. A few years later, with more than 100 different Stickers-For-Sneakers designs, I’m customizing shoes on a daily basis to match my outfit.

People around the globe have long been searching for unique ways to customize their possessions so that they stand out from the crowd and express themselves. Whether it’s laptops, cell phones, clothing, accessories, or even cars, credit cards and M&M’s.

FunkKit is tapping into a changing trend, bringing something new that no one else has.

Our stickers for sneakers enable shoe customization DIY style on a daily basis. Our sticker decals are made with state-of-the-art materials and technology, this is why they are no similar to regular stickers, they are thin, flexible, water-durable, seamless, and most importantly are easy to apply and remove.

Our uniqueness is not only in the product itself, but in the community based approach. All our sneaker art design are submitted by designers worldwide. Each designer has its own profile page with their bio, contact information, and design.
Together with our community FunkKit will become a powerful, stand-alone hub for leading a new category of expression in global apparel.

What’s the difference between customizing the shoes directly though Adidas and Nike for example and using FunkKit ?

Footwear companies recognized this growing trend and are spending millions of dollars on customization platforms and continuing their development. FunkKit, unlike others, offers a disposable customization solution. FunkKit’s Stickers For Sneakers are removable, allowing to use the same shoe with a different design each time. Simply peel off the sticker and start over again, and the best part is that it only takes between 3-15 minutes to customize the shoes.

It seems pretty easy to use, how does it work?

It’s really easy! Within 3 simple steps you can customize your shoes. Simply trace, cut and stick.

If it’s your first time customizing with FunkKit Stickers for Sneakers, it can take between 10-15 minutes, after 2-3 times it would take you about 5 minutes top.

How does one get some ‘Stickers for Sneakers” ?

FunkKit is sold in retail stores in Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Poland and other selected countries, the best way is to search the web for stores near you or visit our online store @ www.FunkKit.com/store.
The designs will be sent to you via registered mail.

What is the cost ?

We currently offer two product options:

FunkKit Full Design Pattern (Double Kit) – includes a kit with: 2 design strips, 2 tracing transparent papers and instructions.

OR

FunkKit Pre-Cut (die-cut) sticker Kit – where you peel-off the sticker wanted and stick it on the shoe, with no need of any cutting process. Each package includes between 6-9 pre cut designs.

What is your most popular market ?

Our most popular market is Asia. We started with Japan, the place where fashion meets art, and countries such as Taiwan, Korea and Malaysia aroused after penetrating the Japanese market.

Today, Asia is a growing fashion hub, with leading youth culture and awareness to unconventionality, mix and match colors and patterns, and other fashion trends. A great match for FunkKit.

What’s next for FunkKit ?

We plan to continue growing and expanding worldwide, while establishing new collaborations with leading designers, promotion companies, and brands. We also have some new surprises coming soon.

Why is it, in your opinion, that Israel is such an innovation hub? When it comes to Innovation and Israel, does Size Matter?

Not in this case, Israel which is the size of New Jersey, the 5th-smallest US state, has the most startups per capita worldwide, and the third highest number of patents per head.

As I see it, Israel is a community of inventors, free thinkers, and entrepreneurs who are always challenged and inspired by things. Whether it’s due to our past, the army service or our low tolerance threshold and “Israeli chutzpah”, we have always been encouraged to accept the challenge and embrace the opportunity.

This diversity of innovations makes Israel an attractive first-tier innovation hub and enables an easier start for additional new products, technologies and companies.
