Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal and current player Amar’e Stoudemire are both talented basketball players, but they also have a less well-known skill — they speak Hebrew.
Amar’e visited Israel in 2010, where he spoke about his Jewish roots including Shabbat and Passover, showed his Star of David tattoo and spoke about himself, in Hebrew. He also appeared on Shalom Sesame.
A few days later Shaq showed that he too could speak Hebrew, saying shalom to Amar’e. He also showed off his Ivrit skills to Daily Show host Jon Stewart.

I promise to post a video by the end of the week to really introduce myself! But for now I have a fun story of the moment… I went to go pick up my cousin from Montreal at the airport. Anyways, as I am walking into the airport, I bash into this really tall dark man, I look up (as I was obviously not looking at where I was going!) and said “Slicha” (Sorry) and continued walking. Then it hit me, I had literally just bumped into the most popular Israeli singer in Israel, Dudu Aharon!! I immediately started hyperventilating, because as a crazed fan that is just what one does, and called one of my best friends to tell her my good news and how I will never wash my shirt again. As we were talking about it we both realized something funny. In any other country when any famous person is around, paparazzi and a team of bodyguards usually follows him, yet Dudu Aharon wasn’t surrounded by more then five people! If I had accidentally bumped into Justin Bieber lets say, I am pretty sure I would have been tackled by bodyguards and carried out of the airport. So funny how celebrities just blend in to everyday life in this country, often going unnoticed! Now I feel kinda dumb I didn’t get a picture with him!
This is the fourth time Van Damme is visiting Israel. This time he’s there for personal reasons, visiting the holy sites in Jerusalem and clubbing in Tel Aviv. During the weekend he was already spotted pumping muscles at a local gym in Tel Aviv, then he was seen in a café on Ben Yehuda street (which is where the photos were taken, by photographer Nir Pekin of the Israeli Walla website), and finally he was clubbing at the most hipster dance bar in town “The Cat and the Dog,” where he met actor Stephen Dorff, who’s currently in the country filming a new movie, and was there with some Israeli friends.
An Israeli report says that Dorff came to say ‘hi’ to Van Damme, but the muscles from Brussels didn’t have a clue who he was, and gave his bodyguards an instruction to forbid Dorff to come near him. Awkward!
Have fun, Jean Claude! (looks like you already are!)

Here’s a new name for you to remember: Shira Vilensky. The young actress, who is remembered among Israeli teenagers for her role in the successful original series “Hashminia,” has been cast in a new Hollywood movie entitled ‘The Iceman.’
The horror movie, directed by Ariel Vromen, revolves around a psychopath serial killer who freezes his victims at his house. Vilensky will play a waitress in a coffeeshop (possibly a potential victim?), alongside big (Jewish) names like Winona Ryder , David Shwimmer and (not so Jewish) Chris Evans. Shooting has already started over the past few weeks in Los Angeles and New York.
Vilensky, 28, started her career as a model, and in 2002 was cast for her first big role in Israel, in the movie “Knafayim Shvurot” (‘Broken Wings’). She also played in the successful Israeli Telenovela “Michaela,” and even did “Dancing with the Stars” in 2006. Lately she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a Hollywood career and had a role in the 2011 movie “Joshua Tree,” opposite Michael Madsen (‘Kill Bill’). Vilensky is also set to make an appearance in the highly anticipated all-star movie ‘Lovelace,’ alongside names like Demi Moore, James Franco, Amanda Seyfried, Eric Roberts and Adam Brody.

Sandra Bernhard’s cutting edge humor was on display at the Painted Bride in Philadelphia last night. Who knew that Bernhard and Republican Presidential candidate Michele Bachman had something in common? Both of them worked on a Kibbutz after high school. The only difference being that Bernhard had lots of family here.
Bernhard credits the Kibbutz with instilling a work ethic in her. She rose at 7 15, 6 days a week to pick fruit, cotton, etc.
University of Arts Professor Camille Paglia and Bernhard used to be good friends. Their friendship ended over Palin. Paglia semi endorsed Palin’s brand of feminism during the 2008 elections, which disturbed Bernhard. “This election is too important to even joke about things like that,” said Bernhard.
