Four Israeli films will be screened at this year’s prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), organizers announced late yesterday (August 16). They are: Joseph Cedar’s Footnote, Jonathan Sagall’sLipstikka, Tawfik Abu Wael’s Last Days in Jerusalem, and Yossi Madmony’s Restoration.

Footnote - which won best screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival — will have its North American premiere at the Toronto event. The story chronicles the outcome of a great rivalry between a father and son, both professors in the Talmud department of Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Lipstikka - an Israeli-British co-production — is a psychological thriller that depicts the complicated relationship between two Palestinian women who move to London to begin a new life but cannot forget the one they left behind.

Last Days in Jerusalem (Tanathor) - an Israeli-French co-production — takes place in Eastern Jerusalem, telling of an Arab couple on the brink of separation.

Restoration - up for 11 Ophir Awards (Israeli Oscars) — tells the story of a family fighting to save their antiques restoration business-and themselves.

Altogether 51 films will share the screens at the TIFF festival that runs September 8-18.
